Studied Art and Design at
Abingdon College Oxfordshire from 1995-97 before going on to complete a BA
in Graphic Design at
Bath Spa University College in 2001. Paul still lives and works in
Bath.
A large part of his degree concentrated on his love for Hong Kong Action
Cinema.
He was awarded membership to the International Society of Typographic
Designers for an interactive biography of Bruce Lee, and his final year's
study explored Hong Kong's long tradition of action heroines, from
folklore to opera to film, with it's subsequent influence on Hollywood
Cinema.
He has contributed film to Filter, (2002) for Project Vision
as part of the Fringe Visual Arts Programme and continues to use
the influence of film in the exploration of images through a variety of
media. Light, reflective surfaces, scale and the abstraction of the figure
help to evoke certain pleasures of the silver / jade screen.
This current work focuses on legendary figures from Hong Kong's Action
Cinema. The work is made utilising manufacturing processes often used to aid the imagery of
corporate marketing strategies, in materials comprised of natural
elements, (echoing sculptural and architectural practice).
Paul recently exhibited portraits of legendary actors from Hong Kong's
Action Cinema in a variety of media at the Michael Tippett Centre, Bath,
as part of the Bath Visual Arts programme.Works currently featured:
